Today is the 115th anniversary of E.C. Segar’s birthday, which is why Google have decided to celebrate by posting a doodle on their home page. For those of you who had never heard of E.C. Segar before now, he is the creator of Popeye.
Popeye is famous for his power after consumption of spinach. Popeye the Sailor man was firstly introduce in 1929, in Segar’s newspaper comic strip Thimble Theatre.
Google’s logo today shows Popeye about to chow down on some spinach. Hover over the logo and you get the message “E.C. Segar’s Birthday.”
E.C. Segar, per Wikipedia, was born on this date in Illinois in 1894 and died in October 1938. The cartoonist created Popeye in print in 1929 in the comic strip “Thimble Theatre.” Popeye later moved to the big screen.
