GM rush sales Saturn and Pontiac Cars
Posted by: | CommentsGM needs to get rid of thousands of Saturn and Pontiac cars and they are having what some are calling a “fire sale” to get rid of the two brands that are now discontinued by General Motors. With leftover inventory on dealer lots, GM is offering some attractive incentives to dealerships so they can move the Saturn and Pontiac cars off the dealer’s lots. Anyone looking for a new car from the discontinued Saturn and Pontiac line could walk away buying one for up to 46% off the sticker price.
General Motors recently sent out letters to dealers offering $7,000 for every new Saturn or Pontiac on their lot that is moved to rental-vehicle or service-vehicle fleets operated by the dealers. Once they are moved to the rental or service fleet, the dealer can sell the cars to the public, but they have to do their own advertising. GM will wash their hands of these popular brands once the dealer accepts the $7,000 offer.
CBS reported that 14,500 new Saturns and Pontiacs filled dealership inventory at the beginning of December, 2009. The offer from GM is good until January 4, 2010 if dealers plan to take part.
End of year sales for dealers could skyrocket with this plan in place. After a tough year for car dealers, selling off the popular Saturn and Pontiac cars should not be a problem. They are a trusted brand and with a large discount, people in the market for a new car will likely get an amazing deal.
The downside of buying a discontinued Saturn or Pontiac
The deal may be great but what happens after you buy the car? It shouldn’t be too traumatic. GM is offering to stand by the warranty on these cars although some could see a reduction in resale value if they plan to unload the car at a later date. However, if you buy a new car and get in the area of 46% off the sticker price, it’s worth hanging on to — at least while you have the GM warranty.

Toyota recall: warns that floor mat could jam accelerator
Posted by: | CommentsThe National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration issued a wide-ranging recall late today for 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The recall stems from faulty floor mats that can become stuck under the accelerator pedal causing unexpected acceleration. The defect is suspected to be the cause of one recent fatal accident.
The recall includes both the Tundra and Tacoma from the following years:
2005-2010 Tacoma
2007-2010 Tundra
The affected vehicles also include 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS350.
In the event owners choose not to remove their floor mat, Toyota strongly recommends that they ensure that the correct floor mat is being used, that it is properly installed and secured, that it is not flipped over with bottom-side up, and that one floor mat is not stacked over another. Information on proper floor mat installation can be found on http://www.toyota.com and http://www.lexus.com.
Owners with questions or concerns, are asked to please contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center (1 800 331-4331) or Lexus Customer Assistance Center (1 800 255¬3987), or consult the information posted at http://www.toyota.com and http://www.lexus.com.

gmc terrain 2010 released
Posted by: | Comments2010 GMC Terrain is a truck: upright, squared-off and with beefy shoulders over the wheels that would look right at home on a Hummer or Jeep. Until the large Acadia crossover appeared, GMC had always been a purist’s truck brand, maker of body-on-frame haulers and workhorses. The Terrain wears its GMC badges proudly (there are even little GMC emblems molded into the side reflectors incorporated in the taillights), but it’s really a compact crossover SUV.
The 2010 GMC Terrain is available with a range of powertrain options: either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and four- or six-cylinder engines; mix and match as you like, they all come with six-speed automatic transmissions and direct injection. A range of trim levels are also available, adding technology and features, though even the base spec is pretty accommodating. Though many of the test vehicles were clad in a deep red, the white and black models packed the most visual punch.
For the family, Terrain has the sliding second row with eight inches of wiggle room from front to back. Are you toting infants and toddlers? Pull the bench forward to make the kids easier to reach from the front seat. If you’ve got teens or adults in the backseat, push the second row back for ample legroom.
The Terrain also offers an entertainment system that can be found in the Buick LaCrosse and Equinox. For $1,295, you get two seatback-mounted DVD monitors that are capable of playing two separate movies or a movie and a video game at the same time. Or, you can hook up the gaming system and have a two-player game showing on both screens. Just think of all the backseat arguments this feature could end.
With a starting price of $24,250, GMC hopes customers will look at its list of standard features and jump on in. It has a standard backup camera, OnStar and a programmable liftgate to help shorter drivers close that hatch.

HSV Grange E Series 2 lineup unveiled
Posted by: | CommentsThe HSV Grange is a luxury performance sedan manufactured by HSV with the Australian automobile company of Holden a subsidiary of General Motors. The car uses a LS3 6.2 Litre Generation Four V8 engine, which produces 317 kW (425 hp) at 6000 rpm and 550 N·m (406 lb·ft) of torque at 4600 rpm so it will get the heavy car to 100 kmh in a very quick 5.05 seconds. The vehicle is heavily based on the Holden WM Caprice with most of its mechanics and interior specifications conceded over to the Grange.
Although the larger Senator and Grange models sport a different look, E Series 2 models built off the Holden Commodore — the G8’s base — make use of the leftover Pontiac parts. We’ll give HSV stylists credit: They’ve modified the split grille considerably, crafting a wild front fascia that would make Mad Max proud.
Arguably, the “tamer” models are the Clubsport R8 E Series 2 models, which are approximately as close to a G8 GXP as your Australian dollar will buy. Available in sedan, wagon (“Tourer”), and ute (“Maloo”) forms, the E Series 2 models include a 425-hp LS3 6.2-liter V-8, your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission (the former includes launch control), and 19-inch wheels. Buyers can opt for leather-trimmed seats, 20-inch wheels, and a bi-modal exhaust — not unlike the system found on the Corvette.
Those features are standard on the HSV GTS E Series 2, which is arguably the top of the limited-edition lineup. Holden boosts the LS3 V-8 to a scorching 435 hp, adds a competition-tuned stability control system, magnetic ride control, and four-piston front and rear brake calipers. As far as we can tell, the only option available is to spring for larger six-pistion front brake calipers, which also add unique wheel accents.
