Today seems to be the right time to celebrate Winter Solstice 2009 and the shortest day of the year.
According to the Winter Solstice 2009 details declared by different observatories, this year, Winter Solstice would start at 11:47 am CST. People who are located in the other time zones are expected to calculate the time depending on the time difference they have from CST.
Today, sun would reach the extreme corner on the southern part of earth, making the day shortest in the northern hemisphere and longest in the southern hemisphere. It means that today people in the northern hemisphere would receive the minimum light and heat of sun. Therefore, the places, which are already affected by the snowfall and winter storms might experience a drop in temperature tonight. However, the duration of day will increase from tomorrow and places which have been frozen for the winter weather can get to see some changes.

Today is the 115th anniversary of E.C. Segar’s birthday, which is why Google have decided to celebrate by posting a doodle on their home page. For those of you who had never heard of E.C. Segar before now, he is the creator of Popeye.
Popeye is famous for his power after consumption of spinach. Popeye the Sailor man was firstly introduce in 1929, in Segar’s newspaper comic strip Thimble Theatre.
Google’s logo today shows Popeye about to chow down on some spinach. Hover over the logo and you get the message “E.C. Segar’s Birthday.”
E.C. Segar, per Wikipedia, was born on this date in Illinois in 1894 and died in October 1938. The cartoonist created Popeye in print in 1929 in the comic strip “Thimble Theatre.” Popeye later moved to the big screen.

Posted by: | CommentsThe teen sexting tragedy occured at 13 year old girl Hope Witsell when she killed herself after sending a topless photo of herself to a boy she liked in her high school. Someone else intercepted the picture text and forwarded it to other students in the school. Hope soon became a victim of bullying and taunting:
“The hallways were not fun at that time — she’d walk into class and somebody would say, ‘Oh, here comes the slut’,” Hope’s friend, Lane James, told the newspaper.
This is the second sexting tragedy to occur in the US. Eighteen-year-old Jesse Logan also committed suicide after nude pictures she’d sent to an ex-boyfriend were forwarded to hundreds of other students.
joan najbar sues The US Federal Government
Posted by: | CommentsJoan Najbar, mother of U.S. soldier Sam Eininger, who has protested the war, wrote a letter to her son stationed in Iraq. Joan’s letter came back marked “deceased”. Rightfully so, Najbar filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Postal Services in 2008 for emotional distress and negligence. The suit was denied twice. Najbar never even received an apology.
The government’s response to her lawsuit has not yet been filed, but the U.S. Postal Service found no evidence of negligence after Najbar filed a claim in 2008.
Her attorney says he is investigating whether Najbar’s anti-war protest on the steps of a Duluth post office days before the letter was returned had anything to do with the stamp.

The author of what is billed as the 2009 Christmas card of the Woods family is unknown.

And the Shaniya Davis cause of death is asphyxiation and the autopsy revealed that the little five year old girl was raped. Mario Andrette McNeill has been charged with rape and first degree murder in addition to first degree kidnapping charges. A live press conference was held tonight at 8:00 p.m. and the additional charges were made public.

Wizard of oz hanging
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s the 70th anniversary of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ movie, an American classic, which means a few theaters will be showing a remastered version of the film. Is there a hanging in the Wizard of Oz? Questions of a hanging in background Wizard of Oz footage are not new.
But chatting up online tonight is the same question – when Dorothy heads down the yellow brick road, there appears a small dark figure moving in the background …. is that a crew member hanging?
Answer is no. The questions first arose when the Wizard of Oz was released on home video. If you watch the scene on a big screen, reports say the dark figure is obviously a bird, a big bird believed to be one of the cranes rented by MGM for the scene.
For the creation of “over the rainbow”, MGM brought in everything from peacocks to turkeys. Even in moments before and after, Dorothy has birds flying around her. The result was to make a studio set appear more like the outdoors. The result – birds in the background, not a hanging.

Brad Paisley leads the pack for tonight’s CMA Award nominations. The country superstar, who is also co-hosting the awards show with Carrie Underwood, has seven nods: Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album, Single, Song, Video and Musical Event of the Year. On Brad’s heels are Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, George Strait, Jamey Johnson and the Zac Brown Band, with four nominations apiece.
Katt Williams goes to jail
Posted by: | CommentsKatt Williams who went to jail for attempted burglary has been released. Comedian Katt William was accused of breaking into house and hence ended up going into jail. He was accused of theft as well. The breaking-in stunt by Katt Williams made him to go to the jail. But lately he was released from the jail after a $40,000 bond.
On Nov. 3, an unidentified 17-year-old told the 911 operator that Williams had threatened “to beat me up” if he left the Newnan estate where Williams was staying.
Coweta Sheriff’s Office Maj. Mike Kinsey said authorities weren’t able to substantiate the boy’s claims.

Charla Nash is appearing on Oprah today, re-sparking the interest in the mauling victim.
“I don’t ask a whole lot about my injuries. I know that I have my forehead,” Nash who suffered unimaginable injuries to her face, told Winfrey.
Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey interviewed her in her hospital room at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio yesterday. The episode airs at 4 p.m. today on WABC/Channel 7.
